Results of the surgery: YUCK!!! 1st surgery 20 hrs long, never made it out of recovery & rushed back in for another 8 hours. 2 days later emergency surgery and the reconstructed right breast failed & had to have that removed, next day, left breast was removed. Somewhere inbetween there, lost LOTS of blood & had 4 blood transfusions. The staff & doctors were amazing, and this failure is a SMALL percentage compared to all the successfull DIEP surgeries. But just my luck, huh? Next week I will go and have another small surgery to begin the process of rebuilding boobies again! Whooo Hoooo! Keeping my chin up & greatful for an amazing suport system! XOXO Barbara
Home From The Hospital & Cancer Free
22 NovWell, that was definately an experience I didn’t expect! Four surgeries, several blood transfusions and failed flaps! I’m not sure what’s exactly next!
Here is what I DO KNOW:
The cancer is gone and I will not need chemo or radiation for further treatment! The drains are still in (from 6 down to 4) and working on a plan for reconstruction!
I can’t thank everyone enough for the love & prayers, notes & gifts… I’m recovering and that’s something to be happy about for me!
Barbara’s Update
15 NovI was able to see Barbara today and wanted to update you on her recovery.
She is doing great and is in good spirits, feeling positive and managing her pain well. The cancer was removed with clear margins and there was no cancer detected in her lymph nodes. Yay!!!
As you can see below, she has a very nice room with an unbelievable view and was able to watch the sun set across the harbor this evening. She also has her many gifts and well wishes with her to draw strength from your support.
She is downtown at Roper Hospital. As of now, she will be there until at least Friday. There are still some hurdles to cross, and she will be relaxing and taking it easy for the next several days to give her the best possible outcome.
I will update you periodically with new information on Barbara’s progress, and hope to keep getting positive news!!
Have a great night!
Jenn
Barbara’s Update
13 NovBarbara wanted me to let you know that she is out of surgery and in her room recovering at Roper Hospital. We are very grateful for all the prayers and good wishes that have been sent her way over the past days (and weeks and months…). She does need extra strength prayers right now as there were some complications with her surgery, so keep those thoughts and prayers coming. I know it brings her much comfort to have your support through this ordeal.
The Transflap surgery was on Friday and then she had to go back in for an additional procedure on Saturday. She is going to be feeling better soon and hopefully I will be able to get you an update with some more information tomorrow. As of now, she is resting and recovering.
Have a great night and I will keep you updated as soon as I have more information. Thanks!!
Jenn
Real men DO like PINK!!!
7 NovHere are a couple of the things the guys at the Fire Department made for me! I sure do feel special
The Count Down
1 NovIt’s November 1st… Surgery is in 10 more days! Tomorrow is pre-op appointment with ps (plastic surgeon).
Getting geared up for surgery is different than anything else I’ve ever prepared for! There are a gazillion things I should do before surgery, but all I want to do it “avoid” and pretend its no big deal! I think this approach is more fun anyway!! LOL

7 OctHave you had the opportunity to be treated like royality? I’ve been experiencing this lately. Just when I’m feeling sad & lonely, I get a random phone call or email or care package in the mail.
Yesterdays care package and letter enclosed had me in tears… The good tears! The tears that warm your heart and let you know the world is a little less scary cause your really not alone!
